The Truth About Commercial Raisin Processing
Natural raisins are dark brown, slightly shrivelled, and vary slightly in size. Commercial raisins – especially the golden variety – are treated with sulphur dioxide (E220) to prevent browning and maintain a bright golden appearance. Mineral oil or glycerol is then coated on the surface to maintain softness and prevent clumping during long storage and transit.
Sulphur dioxide is a known trigger for asthma attacks. The EU mandates labelling – “contains sulphites” – but Indian retail enforcement is inconsistent. If your raisin packet does not explicitly state sulphur-free, it almost certainly is not.
Woitpure Kishmish – One Source, One Standard
Our raisins are made from Sonaka variety seedless grapes sourced from Nashik, Maharashtra – the region that produces India’s premium raisins with the highest natural sugar density. They are sun-dried over 3-4 weeks with no chemical treatment. The result is a darker, naturally sweet raisin with concentrated nutrients and no surface coating whatsoever.

How to Use
Iron Absorption Ritual: Soak 15-20 raisins overnight in water. Eat the raisins and drink the soaking water on an empty stomach. Pair with Vitamin C (orange or amla juice) to significantly increase iron absorption rate.
Pre-Workout Natural Energy: 30g raisins 20-30 minutes before training. Research published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition confirmed raisins match commercial sports chews for endurance performance – at a fraction of the price.
Pulao and Biryani: Natural raisins hold texture during cooking and do not release sticky mineral oil coating into the dish. Add in the last 5 minutes to retain some chewiness.
